The following should make people boil about what the Henry County BOC is now contemplating at Heritage Park.  The park was created to be a place to put historical items from Henry County’s past to be remembered.  It looks like the “woke” crowd doesn’t want any remembrance at all.  They have already removed the Confederate Monument from the square in McDonough and placed it in a shipping container.  Read  the following:  “Henry County is considering the removal of the historic train and other items at Heritage Park in McDonough. The board of commissioners will consider voting to surplus the items during the Tuesday, November 16, meeting.

The meeting will start at 5:30 pm. This is one hour earlier than the normal time. Agenda items from November 3 are also on the agenda. The board had to cancel the November 3 meeting because a quorum wasn’t present.

The train at Heritage Park is a steam locomotive. The train commemorates the Camp Creek train wreck. The wreck occurred in McDonough during June 1900.

County staff are recommending the board surplus the steam engine. To surplus an item allows the county to discard, sell or scrap the item. In their report, staff write the following:

Heritage Park is home to old structures and buildings that have not been maintained over the years. At this time, the cost to repair the buildings and structures isn’t worth preserving as we head in a new direction with revitalizing the image of the park. The train symbolizes an old train wreck which occurred in Henry County years ago. We are looking to [improve] the park and area to shed light on the positive things that have happened and are happening in Henry County. The silo and old road scraper are rusted and unsightly. We are recommending surplus these items so we may remove them and begin improvements to the park.

What do they want next the destruction of the Veterans Wall of Honor?  If those who claim to love history continue to vote these unworthy people into office then there will be more destruction to come.   The train they are wanting to scrap is a representation of the engine that crashed in the Camp Creek Train Wreck of 1900 when more people died at that incident than any other train wreck in Georgia History.  This is an item to let the people who visit Henry County know of the accident and those who lost their lives.  The other items they are scrapping were donated to the Park for museum pieces.  They are likely to want to do away with the Veterans Museum at the park as well.  This type of destruction of history is always done by those with no morals, scruples or thinking processes.  Please let these people who fill those chairs hear an ear full about what they are planning at the meeting.

It has been debated by many as to how much it takes to sell one’s soul in removing the Confederate monuments in the local cities.  The company that removed the Monument from Conyers and then McDonough is Roper and Sons out of Covington, GA.  They took money that was freely given by those that call themselves elected officials, to remove essentially grave markers for those troops who died in battles far from home.  Those monuments were placed in the towns by the United Daughters of the Confederacy to remember those who did not come home and their bodies were not recovered.   They were removed at the bidding of those racist officials who are doing it for political gain and folly.  Those who are doing the work think of themselves as just a family trying to do a job, but they are following the unlitigated greed that has caused so much angst and furor among many of the citizens.  They see only a way to get rich off the deaths of those ancestors who fought and died for their homes and families.  There is no excuse for what is occurring with the removal of those monuments.   Here is a good symbolic reference to what has occurred.  The commissioners are no different than the Roman ruler of Judea Pontius Pilate.  And the people who are removing the monuments are akin to Judas who sold out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.  Yes, pure old fashioned treachery.  Always remember those who did this to the dead.

At the March 19, 2019, Henry BoC Meeting, the commissioners heard from Parks and Recreation Director Tim Coley about the upcoming Southern Jubilee Festival and Civil War Re-enactment that goes along with it.  According to the ordinances of Henry County they have to come to the BoC to ask if they can use black powder for the guns and cannons that will be used in the re-enactment.  The board voted 3 to 3 which caused the question to fail clearly along racial lines.  You can't have a re-enactment without the guns.  There would be no bullets or cannonballs in the guns just black powder.  What do they want them to do, use cap guns?  During the public comments, those who have permission to have the event from Henry County were clearly upset with the commissioners.  These people are members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  They are likely to file suit against Henry County for establishing this precedent because there is nothing in the agreement about having to go to the BoC for permission.  Also, the BoC in former years has allowed this event to take place without incident.  Now since there is a voting block on the commission they want to use their racist mind to obstruct an event that would bring money to Henry County.  Now it is likely to cost Henry County.  Even the county attorney alluded to this point.  The people in the audience could clearly see that there was some contempt by the board members with one another.  The commissioner for the district who likes to be called the "smoking hot boss" is nothing more than a racist who wants Nash Farm to go away.  She already got rid of the Civil War museum there and brought in some of her friends there for a farmers market at a better price.  The 5th district commissioner said he couldn't support a group who has ties to Nathan Bedford Forrest.  Now that is a big statement from a little-minded man who must think General Forrest is still living. (That could be from his being hit in the head playing football which he filed suit with the NFL about.)  If this is the case we cannot support him or his other colleagues who vote with him because of Malcolm X.  They cannot make the past go away and they cannot make the white race go away either.  All they are succeeding in doing is awakening a very large sleeping giant.  This type of political problem will only cause the sore that is festering in Henry County to grow and one day bust.

It was apparent watching from the audience that the Henry County Board of Commissioners on January 22, 2019 declared war on the poor families of Henry County.  The county attorney made his presentation about creating a new board to oversee an "urban redevelopment authority" to take care of what they might perceive as "blighted" areas in the county.  They have probably been looking for a way to remove the people who live in mobile homes, poor areas around the west side of McDonough and other areas.  If a company wishes to own a piece of land now they will have a way to remove any obstacles that might be there.   This is the kind of action that causes the deaths of people who are barely hanging as their lives are not as well kept as those people who take your homes from you.  There are a lot of elderly, disabled and poor people who live the best they can and now they have found a way to make sure they go away.  Even small struggling family businesses could be declared as a blight in an area because they don't fit. The problem is a lot of these people were in Henry County first.  The new built up around them..  But those in power don't seem to give a damn about them they only see money signs for tax dollars.  And they proved that by adding more houses and townhomes along Jodeco Road after many people were against it.  The fact is those on the board who voted for this project had already made up their minds before they even sat down in their chairs.   Henry County is fast turning into a seething pit of waste and dereliction of duty.  But as usual the poor of the community will be the ones to suffer at the hands of unlitigated greed.  They have pissed on the poor for so long and now they have found a way to bury them.  In the US Constitution, the document stresses that a man's home is his castle and it doesn't say how large or condition that home might represent.  But those who pretend to lead only follow what they are told to do by those in the background who have an endless stream of money in their pockets.

It looks like we have been doubled talked once again by those sitting on the Board of Commissioners.  These people have said time and again that they would not increase our property taxes.  Well, this is over on the BoC website and this was posted over a week ago.  Nothing has been seen in the paper yet.  This is another shaft the citizens will have to carry upon their backs.  For some, the increase would not affect them much, but for the elderly and disabled it will because every penny is needed just to survive.  We are getting the proverbial screw in the back this time.  Since the tax digest has risen considerably in Henry County they stand to make quite a haul.   This leads to further mistrust of those elected to serve the people and this is not good service.  The citizens should revolt at tax time and not pay their property taxes.  Withhold them from the county.  You would see something change dramatically overnight.  It looks like the only thing they have on their minds is money.  When you get a selective few who garner and broker the funds generated by taxes in the County and Municipalities that have agendas not in keeping with the public trust, then you have a serious problem.  And Henry County has a big problem that runs deep.  There are too many power struggles right now in the county that are not helping with this matter at all.  Smoke and mirrors that have been used widely over the years by the county and cities.  Look at the debacles in Hampton, the fights in Stockbridge, the undertow in McDonough and the slow consumption of Locust Grove.   The Board of Education has already got the millage rate maxed out and the appraisals being higher they will garner a vast amount of money from your paycheck.  If you like what you see and are living with, then by all means just let the status quo continue, but if you want to see a change vote those who would rather deal away their honor out of office in November.  The future of the county is riding on the next few elections and it is teetering on a disaster in more ways than one.

Veterans Wall Of Honor In Bad Shape

A friend had a person from out of town to visit for the weekend who wanted to go to the Veterans Wall of Honor at Heritage Park in McDonough.  So, they took him and he was taken aback by some things he saw there.  This man is a Veteran of the United States Navy and he is an electrician and electrical inspector where he lives.  He said that there is some shoddy electrical work that was done at this site.  He could not believe that it passed inspection.  He also noted that the plaques on the Wall are missing some stars that hold them on the Wall.  He walked down the Walk of Honor and noticed that the black is coming off several of the names.  He said that there needs to be some serious maintenance done to this Veterans military site.  He said the Wall needs a thorough cleaning and wondered if there is regular inspections on this area.  Our friend really did not know how to answer him.  Our friend was embarrassed by what this man found at the Wall of Honor.   Maybe the county needs to look into maintaining this area better than they have in the past.  This place that is used to honor those who have served and died for this nation should have better care.  It looks like those at the County leadership level have different priorities and agendas instead of keeping up what they have already.

Henry County Recycling Center Closing In June

It looks like the Henry County Recycling Center is closing by the end of June 2018.  Now, this isn't published in any news outlet and the information comes directly from those working at the site.  Just think you Board of Commissioners is going to close a vital service to the community that is paid for through your taxes.  Interesting to note there are people who think it is okay to let it close.  Where do they think this stuff will end up, that's right on the sides of the roads and in woods or your very own cul-de-sac.  The landfills such as in Clayton County are charging over a $100 for things to be taken there.  Henry County has needed another landfill for decades now.  And it is laughable that they suggest taking things down to Spalding County on the other side of Hwy 16 to the landfill on Bailey Jester Road.  Yes, it cost money to operate a recycling center or landfill, but they are needed essentials in any community because humans produce trash at an alarming rate.  But it is a disgrace that the commissioners haven't the backbone to face the citizens and let them know that this service is being closed down.  Maybe this is part of the new direction we are hearing about from the building where people hide from the press and attack citizens who ask why these things are happening with no answers just more of the same rhetoric.  Just remember as you are riding down the road and there are piles of metal, glass, car batteries, tires and other recyclable materials along that rode who is at fault.  Elections are coming and it is time for many changes in that cathedral of what is supposed to be legislative action to help citizens not hurt them.  Remember when you pay your tax bill on your property that has increased in value and ask why isn't part of this being used to keep Henry Clean.

Stockbridge VS City Of Eagles Landing

As we begin to write the following information we want to let everyone know that we are neither for or against Stockbridge or the idea of a new city of Eagles Landing.  This is an informative post.  For some time now there has been a lot of back and forth about the idea of a new city of Eagles Landing being created and Stockbridge is fighting it's creation saying they will be taking part of their city to do so.  Let's go back in history and talk a few facts:

1. The idea of a city being where Eagles Landing is today is nothing new.  It was proposed back in the late 1960's as a city to be called Henry City.  

2.  Later a developer came and created the community of Eagles Landing which was far removed from the City of Stockbridge.  The city limits at the time only went to the rock quarry.

3.  The former mayor the late Rudy Kelley lived in Stockbridge.  They wanted a home in the Windsong Plantation which they got, but in order for him to remain mayor, they had to annex part of that subdivision along with a strip of land down Rock Quarry Rd to it.  Then, they decided to move into the gated part of Eagles Landing and again had a certain area annexed so he could remain mayor.  It was all politics.

4.  It has been mentioned that the people of Stockbridge have never paid property taxes for the city.  That is not true.  The people the city paid city taxes until the State dismantled their police department and the fire department was turned over to the county.  They stopped city property taxes at that time.

5.  The city began talking about having a police department once again, but the only way to have said department will mean they will have to have a property tax to maintain it.  That is a logistical fact.

6.  Stockbridge over the years has allowed developers to come to them to have subdivisions built around the area and thus they would do creative annexations to let them in the city under less than adequate means of construction and smaller lots.  The recent annexation of the property on the west side of I-75 and south of Jodeco Road has been a questionable annexation.

7.  According to the bills before the General Assembly, if there is a City of Eagles Landing formed they will allow Stockbridge to annex other properties and add more people to their city.  There has been made mention that if they form a city of Eagles Landing that it would take over 50% of Stockbridge away and this is simply not true.

8.  The people in the Eagles Landing area are the more affluent and well to do citizens who have the means to take care of themselves.  Similar scenario of the small towns created north of Atlanta by the more affluent which has worked well since their creation.

9.  It has been said that Stockbridge cannot stand on it's own without Eagles Landing, but that shouldn't be the case.  They should not depend on one community to sustain their city.  Stockbridge was a city for a very long time before Eagles Landing was ever built.  They can do just fine if they do the right things in the city.

10.  According to the statistics,  if there is a new city of Eagles Landing created it will be populated with mostly minorities just like the city of Stockbridge.  So, the issue of race should be a moot point.  But of course like everything else this day and time it has raced it's ugly head in this matter as well.

11. Henry County continues to grow and is becoming a hot bed for many different things and another city being added will not make much difference.  There are infrastructure issues that Stockbridge and Henry County need to face and do something about now.  The problem is that when most of the infrastructure projects are due to be built or completed they are obsolete.  Henry County has been a county growing so rapidly, yet are playing catch-up on all the infrastructure issues.  And currently they are failing.  And putting buses on two lane roads are not going to help matters.

12. If they do create a city of Eagles Landing, hopefully the two cities can learn to be friendly to one another.  They don't need to be bitter rivalries because we have already seen too much of that.

In conclusion, there have been a lot of mistakes made along the way in this process that need to be fixed.  There has been a lot bad press and a lot of misinformation flowing about the whole matter.  But when people want to be deannexed and move into another town that means they should have that right with a vote of those involved in that section.  And real politicians learn to compromise to do what is best for the citizens and not what they want for themselves.

An Old Friend Passed Away

The following is about an old friend who passed away recently.  He was remembered by many as being a former mayor of McDonough, but he was much more than that.  He was Mr. Richard Craig who was born on July 1, 1934 and died on January 18, 2018.    Richard was the son of John Hugh Craig, Sr. and Mildred Cowan Craig.    He came from a large family that is well known throughout the area.  His late siblings were Hugh Craig, Jr., Lamar Craig, Robert Craig, Herbert Craig, Larry Craig, and Martha Craig Bolien Watts.   His loving wife Nancy survives him as well as many children.  He is also survived by his brothers Bobby Craig, Mike Craig and Sammy Craig.  I remember Richard talking about his being in the US Army.  He played a key role in the sports, and political area of the county over the years.  He was on the Henry County School Board for ten years.  He loved to play in sports such as baseball at Craig Field on McGarity Road.  He served as councilman of the City of McDonough before serving as mayor.  He was currently on the Henry County Elections Board.  He was a charter member of the Henry County Moose Lodge, past president of the Henry County Kiwanis Club.  He was president of the Henry County High School Booster Club and president of the Henry County Recreation Board.  He was inducted into the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame and the ASA Georgia Umpires and Coaches Hall of Fame. Richard Craig Field is at Alexander Park as well as Richard Craig Park off of Zack Hinton Pkwy.  I remember him coming to eat at the Little Diner on Hood Street in McDonough with my parents Emmett and Elaine Moon.  He worked for Southern Bell at that time out of the building on Griffin Street in McDonough.  He was very helpful to us when my dad had to have open heart surgery in 1974.  I can still see him talking at the Craig Brothers Phillips 66 station in town, which is the welcome center today, with his brothers Herbert and Larry.  We would all usually in up at the Country Kitchen Catfish Restaurant at Barnesville, GA on Saturday nights.  Great memories from my youth. Richard was a forward-thinking man who knew the possibilities of what can be for an area.  McDonough and Henry County lost a true friend when Richard passed away.

Men's Senior Softball League!!!

There is a group of men wishing to start a Henry County Men's Senior Softball League.  This would be a good opportunity to get those who are able out and enjoying a good sport.  This is something sorely needed for those senior men who want something like this to do and are still physically able to enjoy the game. Chaos & Debacle In Mcdonough And Kids Suffer

There was total CHAOS in McDonough on October 27th during the "Uncle Shaq trunk or treat event at the Courthouse parking deck."  There were families waiting in line 2+ hours and got up to the entrance and were turned away.  This was happening between 7:15 and 7:30 pm and the event was billed to last until 8:00PM.  There were kids not only crying, but screaming because they could not get in.  Some have referred this as the "poop show" in McDonough.  And there are several people, of course, taking up for him and his event, but they have no children and did not wait in line with them for over 2 hours.  Just think this man wants to be the next Sheriff of Henry County and he cannot manage a trick or treat event at a very large parking deck in McDonough.  It would be the same CHAOS with him being Sheriff.  This is another bad scar on the face of the City of McDonough thanks to those who want to be in the news and the look at me crowd.  There are mothers and fathers right now that would not give two cents to meet him or have anything to do with an event he is part of because of the way this has been handled.  Remember this will get around and people will stay away from future events because they don't want to wait in line forever to be told to go home by someone who doesn't give a tinkers damn.  It looks like the shenanigans of the City of Stockbridge have moved to McDonough.  Yep looking good there.

More Bad Press For Henry County

"Boo--A Spook Will Get You or At Least Someone in Your Wallet"

It looks like McDonough and Henry County have hit a new low.  There was another paranormal investigative team back in McDonough saying that there are ghosts from the train wreck of June 23, 1900, that are still plaguing the city.  Strange that all the longtime residents of the town have had no problems with ghosts until a few years ago.  The problem with a lot of what was said in the report is laughable.  They don't realize that most of those buildings they were inside of were not there in 1900.  Most of them at that time were made of wood and they have been torn down and rebuilt in the early part of the 20th century.  There were also two large fires on the south side of the square area in 1903 and 1910 that destroyed much of the existing structures that had to be rebuilt.  If people would take the time to look at the county site for the buildings in the area of town they will find some of them weren't even there then.  Another thing not thought about was the fact that the new courthouse was finished in 1897.  The old courthouse stood where the square is today.  They sold it and it was torn down for the bricks.  Now, it was barely cleaned up when the train wrecked.   The square was not developed yet, but the lot was empty.  Bunn's Funeral Home and Carmichael's Funeral Home prepared the bodies from the wreck and put them in boxes and those boxes were also filled with ice to keep those corpses cold until they were removed.   The one big laugh of the show is the guy who owns the old bank on Macon Street and has a restaurant there now.  He said there was a funeral home upstairs.  Wrong building and wrong time.  There was no funeral home there.  And those men talking to a doll made it even more laughable.   The thing that bothers so many people about this is that there are some well-educated people, well thought of people and generally good at heart people who believe all this is really happening.  The investigation team said they couldn't film from the trestle because of a city ordinance.  It isn't a city ordinance it is a Rail Road Law that they are trespassing on their property.  They went there anyway and filmed.  Most that are watching this unfold are knowing what is happening.  They are preying upon people for money.  They are using those who died in that accident to make a buck for McDonough.  That doesn't look good either morally or anything else.  One thing about it though it seems every year around Halloween this pops up and it is making McDonough and Henry County look foolish once again.

It Took An Act Of God

It took an act of God to bring the looney and stupid acts of Henry County and Stockbridge to an end. Days leading up to the Sixteenth Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks both the County and City had planned to hold a memorial ceremony to remember the victims. Like the years before they had it planned to take place in the most inappropriate place. In front of the local Walmarts in the middle of busy intersections.

I have tried over the years to teach both the County and City that this is not the right place to hold a memorial service. But it seems they are not able to learn or they really don’t care about the victims or the families left behind. The County is being run by people with no values at the leadership level. Stockbridge is in a shambles with a Councilman that is just a tad off in the head in my opinion. And that will be the downfall of the city, it’s not called Jerry Springerville for nothing.

9/11/2017 was a bad time for me as I was thinking of my lost love of a lifetime. But I also had the tropical storm to deal with. I spent most of the day posting alerts and info on social media to help people and let them know what was going on and how to stay safe. Some may ask why did I do that when I was hurting so much that day thinking of my lost love. Well, it’s because there are more good sane people in the County and City than greedy stupid people that don’t have a heart. Those people deserved the info I was giving them. The stupid people that think a busy intersection is a good place to bring kids to teach them about 9/11 and to remember the victims of 9/11 could drop dead for all I care. They have proven they are un-American and don’t care so turnabout is fair play.

Henry County Ambulance Fees May Increase

It looks like Henry County is mulling over another increase in the fees to transport patients in ambulances.  They are wanted a sizeable increase on the heals of a 2012 increase.  This will put a sure burden on the poor and those with no insurance.  One can picture it now a patient is being transported to the hospital having a heart attack or stroke and the paramedics learn they have no money or insurance.  They pull along the side of the road and place the patient on the ground and drive away. 

 

This could bring about a new wave of transportation for the sick or injured who have little money.  There could be a Uber service set up using pick up trucks with covers on the back.  They can stock it with first aid, oxygen tanks they can get, and go on eBay and buy a portable defibrillator.  Call the Uber driver for a fraction of the cost of the paramedics and a need fixed.  Now that is the American way to take care of a problem and make a little money also.

Your Property Taxes

The Henry County Board of Commissioners recently voted to keep the millage rate for the county the same.  There was talk that they might go up 1 millage point as requested by the staff.  But the problem is that you and I will still be paying more this year for property taxes because the assessments for the properties in the county have gone up this year.  Thus, if the commissioners didn't want to raise the property tax they should have rolled back the current millage rate so that it would reflect the same tax amount as last year.  They all knew the assessment values went up and knew that it was a sure thing for a property tax increase.    

The Henry County Board of Education also met recently to say they would leave their millage rate at the maximum of 20 mills.  This will generate over $7 million for the BoE.  The BoC will get just over $5 million dollars more and the total will be $12 million for the county as a whole in an increase this year.  The BoE could have rolled back the millage rate as well to help, but they all voted for it to remain the same.

The increase in taxes is going to hurt everyone, not just one sector.  And this once again shows that Henry County needs some real companies with high paying jobs to come to the county to help offset some of these taxes that the homeowners are saddled with on their backs.  At over 38 mills the county is one of the highest taxed counties in the state.  There is more tax money coming in through SPLOST, unseen taxes in the fuel you buy, the food you eat and the products you purchase daily.  And the BoC is proposing to put another tax on you through something called T-SPLOST for roads to be fixed.  If they start this tax it will never end.  With all the regulations, taxes, resolutions, fees and other things that bring in money for the municipalities and the county, one would think that Henry County would be more affluent than it really is in the eyes of others.  It is just merely a county being filled with multi family homes, and warehouses many of which remain empty.  You would also think with all the money going into the school system that the county would have one of the highest rated school systems in the state.  But they have 31 out of 53 schools that are failing and that is not a good sign when the funds are there.

You hear people coming to the county that have no idea what is happening here that say they want and they want, but they are only going to get what the people have to put in the bank account for the system.  Henry County is rapidly becoming a county doomed to have too much of the same thing over and over.  Too much fast food, too many strip malls with the same stores, and too many parks that have to be maintained.  Yet, the county wants to grow more and more by bringing in people by the thousands.  Somewhere it would be wise to put a moratorium on new homes and businesses until things are truly fixed in the infrastructure.  But the blame game has been going for some time.  It was those people's fault from 20 years ago that didn't plan right for what has happened.  No, they didn't plan right, but people came anyway.  

Look for your property assessments to go up again next year.  That is a cash cow that the BoC and BoE don't want to lose.  And don't forget the water department they get 2 mills of your property tax on your bill each year.  Yes, it is the most taxed place in the region currently and what do you really have to show for it.  Monstrous traffic, ill people, crime and poor services.  Stockbridge won't even put together it's own police force with it's surplus funds.  They would rather spend it on trails and walking paths.   

Remember also, that crime follows more people in the population.  That is a given fact.   When the crime rate continues to rise it will deter good companies from wanting to build in Henry County.  They need to put a sign as you enter the county that this is the highest taxed county in this area to remind people while they wait in traffic.  T-SPLOST is not the answer, but halting the influx of people would give the county an opportunity to catch up with the infrastructure.  But they won't.  They want that extra money.  Remember this when election time rolls around once again and these folks want to keep their jobs.  Find those that will want to be good stewards of your money and do the right things for the people.  But from the election results of the last decade, it is a poor chance that things will change.

A few years ago the City of McDonough and Henry County entered into an agreement to buy some land for a soccer park next to the Kroger on Jonesboro Rd. The park was never built because it was determined that too much of it was in a floodplain. It was reported on WSB TV that they now plan on building a park for children that died too early. In other words, a passive park for children that have died. They also said it would be like a small Piedmont Park. Now we all know what the real Piedmont Park in Atlanta is known for we just saw reports of the Dekalb Sheriff get caught exposing himself and running from the police. Is this the kind of park we want in the County or City, I think not. I can see it being called the dinga linga ding dong park of Henry County and the County getting laughed at more than it does now.

Henry County has a history of not doing the right thing when it comes to honor. They are cold and callous about people and their feelings. For years they have held what they call a memorial service for 9/11. But they have no clue as how to do it properly. They hold it in the middle of a busy intersection in front of a Walmart in McDonough. This intersection is just yards from the I-75 on-ramp.  Henry County has manipulated Stockbridge into doing the same thing in recent years at the Walmart on North Henry Blvd also known as the crime capital of the southside. This is not the right place to hold a memorial service for the victims of 9/11. It is a slap in the face to the friends and family members that lost loved ones on that terrible day. The County has a very good Veterans Wall of Honor that would be a good place to hold a service. After all, they have a photo of the towers on the wall as part of the military memorial. But alas, the County is either too cold hearted or just plain stupid.

If the County and Cities want to do the right thing why have they not built a memorial for the victims of 9/11. I have talked to family members that have lost a loved one and they are very upset that the County has done nothing to show respect for their loved one. And we don’t want to hear the crap we don’t have the money. I have seen small towns build a good memorial to the victims of 9/11. I know of one in Texas in a County that is three times larger than Henry County and they only have about 13,000 people in the whole County, yet they found a way to honor the victims. But the great Henry County of Georgia has done nothing, but put people in a busy intersection for a service. No place to take your children to teach them of the horrors of that day. It makes me wonder if the County or the people running it are complicit with the terrorist of that day. Something to think about.

For years I have been writing about how Henry County holds a remembrance service on 9/11. The problem is the place they hold it is too dangerous for parents to bring their kids so the kids can learn and respect what happened that day in 2001. The County holds the service at the intersection of Hwy 81 at the Walmart drive just a few yards from the Interstate I-75 ramp. If the County does not know how to hold a proper service then here is some free advice. You have a park called Heritage Park with a Veterans Wall of Honor that has a depiction of the Twin Towers on the wall. This is a great place to hold the 9/11 remembrance services people can bring their children, it is a safe place for them to learn.

Now this year 2016 comes a move by the most moronic City in Henry County. For the first time ever Stockbridge decides to hold a 9/11 service. Where do they decide to hold it, wait for it. At the intersection of Hwy 42 & 138 at the Walmart drive. Has 9/11 become the Walmart service day? Now we all know Stockbridge can’t run the City too well. They have maybe two Council members that know what they are doing, but the rest well let's just say they need a little help, the poor things. So here is some free advice for Stockbridge. You have a park called Memorial Park that would be a lot safer than the middle of a State Hwy intersection. You also have the park next to the conference center that can hold a large crowd.

I looked at photos of both events and hardly anyone showed up. And in Stockbridge more photos were taken than people in attendance. They even had Ch 11 Alive come down to cover the event. All Stockbridge did was to hijack 9/11 for their own gain. 

Also there was a prayer service put on by community leaders that evening in McDonough. Reading over the list of things they were going to talk and pray about I noticed that yes they were going to talk about first responders and pray for them because of the tensions going on now with the anti- police movement that is infesting our Nation at this time. Nothing about the people that died that day in 2001 was listed. What has this nation come to when people take such a tragic day and turn it into a publicity stunt. It’s time we get new community leaders that have morals and integrity to do the right thing and not belittle the deaths of 3000 Americans.

This year the citizens are going to the polls on November 8th to elect a new Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for Henry County, Georgia. The candidate who can relate to the working class and Christian based public is the write-in candidate Mr. Don Henderson. Mr. Henderson speaks from the heart and is a very devout family man and Christian. He is from the mountains of North Carolina and has lived in Georgia for many years. He as a young man was a singer and made several recordings. He continues from his personal recording studio as a musician and singer. Mr. Henderson went on tour with the USO during the Viet Nam War to bring entertainment to our troops. Mr. Henderson married his wife Penny in 1970. He would go on to a career with Delta Airlines and retire with them. Don and Penny have two sons who serve in our military today. They are members of the Glen Haven Baptist Church. Don is frank with his speaking and can talk in terms anyone can understand. He has studied the financial world and business world since he has been involved with his wife in real estate. He knows how to manage money well. Here are some key points that would lead a person to want to vote for Mr. Henderson:

1. He knows what people need in the county to help strengthen our police and fire departments.

2. Mr. Henderson knows the value of being taught how to keep your money close and when to spend it or not.

3. He knows the value of a good future for our children and has grandchildren he loves dearly that he helps to guide in the best ways to live.

4. Don knows that the county bureacracy has grown out of hand and needs to be reigned in so the citizens won't be burdened with a tax upon a tax.

5. Don knows that unbridled growth will lead to more crime, more infrastructure needs and a down effect on the general area.

6. Don is a man that any citizen can speak with and they can get a fair and honest shake from him.

The establishment of Henry County doesn't want to see him in the race because it interrupts their status quo. When a person votes for a Republican or Democrat in Henry County they are voting for identical ideas that revolve around spending your money. The Council for Quality Growth held a forum for the Republican and Democrat candidates, but did not invite Mr. Henderson. They ignored him and that should tell the citizens of Henry County that they are ignoring them as well. Snubbing their noses at those who work for a living is the wrong attitude to take with the people. Their ignorance to the values that are set forth in the community is sublime. They should never underestimate a person such as Mr. Henderson because he is not running with the so called "in crowd." Take a look at the past chairmans of the county and see what that has gotten the people of the county. They have spent enormous amounts of money in areas where they don't need to spend it. They have woefully let the infrastructure of the county go by the wayside. They knew long ago that the population would increase in the area and that is on the head so past commissioners who spent unwisely. Mr. Henderson is a true conservative who would spend the people's money wisely. The other candidates speak about roads, growth, and public safety all the time making promises that never get done. These are the three talking points that the citizens want to hear about and yet they never truly produce any fruit in the synomous words they use to get elected. The tax and spend mentality of past commissioners has hurt the county in so many ways. Mr. Henderson wants to reign in the spending and build a base of money that the county can have in reserve to help protect it from any future problems because he knows as many do that this economy is fragile and can slip once more.

Here are those who Mr. Henderson is running against in November. The Republican candidate is June Wood. She has gotten the support of many of those who want to tax and spend more on the citizens. She has the support of the in crowd who only want her there so they can keep the status quo. Why would she spend over $47,000 in a runoff with Lisa McGarity? She spent over $10,000 in the April time period for the primary. Now this speaks volumes about the money being influxed into her campaign by the rich developers (many of which don't live in Henry County), by the members of the Chamber of Commerce (where she was the leader at one time), and by those who live in those gated communities and behind their own walls. She is retired as is her husband from Georgia Power Company. She is from Birmingham, Alabama and began her career with the Southern Company at Alabama Power. Why are so many feeding money into her campaign? To keep the status quo and those who tell the chairman what to do and not do. That way they can continue the raping of the land in Henry County to the point that no one will be able to live there safely. She voted for President Obama (who is a Democrat and a liberal) and she admitted it. She speaks of saying that she became a Republican because Mr. Obama didn't have her values, then why did she vote for him? That is poor judgment on her part and that type of thinking can hurt the county as well if she gets the nod from the citizens. She has the same liberal ideas that a Democrat would because she is a seasoned Democrat. She wants to continue to bring more warehouses and other things to the county that the Chamber is backing and they don't have the best interest of the citizens at heart. They are only looking at their pocket books and bank accounts. Why would a true conservative Republican vote for her? Many do it because their buddy is doing it or they want to be part of a clique that wants to be seen and they have to keep up their appearances.

Then, Mr. Henderson is running against the Democrat Carlotta Harrell. Ms. Harrell if elected could face some conflict of interest problems. She sits on the Board of the Henry County Water and Sewer Authority, works with Commissioner Bruce Holmes, and her husband is a deputy sheriff with Henry County. There have been other instances of this in the past with a son of a chairman working for the police department and a son in law working there, but that was not their spouse. Ms. Harrell spent over $10,000 in the primary for Democrat and really didn't have to spend anything. And her contributors are from all across the state and very few from Henry County. That is an interesting note why would all those outside people put money into her campaign? She is nothing but a puppet for Mr. Holmes and the black establishment. The Democrat plan in this years election was to put one of their own in the Republican candidacy thus giving them the opportunity to take the chairmanship from the Republicans. Again, the mob mentality is involved here. She is for wasteful spending and being a part of the problem instead of being an answer to the problem. If people don't think this is the case go over to the Savoy Bar on Hwy 138 on weekends and see who is there plotting and scheming. They are connected to this group out of Clayton County and they have a voice in a certain City of Stockbridge Councilman.

So, to bring in good ideas for the county in the business sense then Mr. Henderson is the right choice. He knows we need to attract some good paying jobs for the county that the Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority have been woefully lacking to bring here. Some very good chances have been missed because those who back Ms. Wood and Ms. Harrell let go by and many citizens could have benefitted from them coming to the county. Mr. Henderson also knows that the county cannot continue down this path of wasteful spending and not see trouble at the end. He recognizes also that the other commissioners have had a disdain for the current chairman because he sees what the problems are in the county and voices his opinions on the matter. That is why they went behind the citizens backs to try and neuter the job of Chair. It has already cost some of them their jobs and will cost the others as well.

The people Henry County need a strong willed person and strong voice for the county and that would be in Mr. Henderson. He knows how to be tactful and how to speak with authority and with compassion. He knows the tax and spend mentality of the current commission will in the long run hurt this county. Contact Mr. Henderson and speak with him to understand what type of leadership qualities he can bring to the county if elected. The best and right thing to do in November is to Write in Don Henderson for Chairman of the Board of Commissioners. You won't go wrong.

Henry County Police Services Needs a Helicopter

With the population being well over 200,000 today, Henry County could use a Police Helicopter instead of depending on other counties to fill their need. DeKalb, Clayton and Fulton Counties have been called upon in the past to help Henry County with search helicopters. This would be a good idea for the citizens to ask the best since they are paying a premium in taxes. It would also be a great idea to cut down on response time from having to request a copter from another jurisdiction. Ask this questions of those running for office this year and let's see what answers you may receive.

McDonough is trying to out do Stockbridge

The leadership of McDonough is trying to out do Stockbridge as the back water city of Henry County with that park land.  As a piece has come out about the property where the Alexander Park is a key asset to the betterment of Council woman Notti.  I live in Rufus Stewarts section of town and we watch the antics that have always plagued this city.  She lives in the big house and all the land around it will be park land and at one time belonged to her family.  And even the small land next to hers where the city just paid $300K for belongs to the home company of Farmers Furniture who was begun by an old friend of the Herman Talmadge, Sr. Family of which she was once part of.  Strange how things work as the big money that is planned for the building of the park is going to take many years to gather.  Vested interest in something that will pay dividends in the long run.  Welcome to the white side of town where corruption runs deep.
