McDonough is trying to out do Stockbridge

The leadership of McDonough is trying to out do Stockbridge as the back water city of Henry County with that park land.  As a piece has come out about the property where the Alexander Park is a key asset to the betterment of Council woman Notti.  I live in Rufus Stewarts section of town and we watch the antics that have always plagued this city.  She lives in the big house and all the land around it will be park land and at one time belonged to her family.  And even the small land next to hers where the city just paid $300K for belongs to the home company of Farmers Furniture who was begun by an old friend of the Herman Talmadge, Sr. Family of which she was once part of.  Strange how things work as the big money that is planned for the building of the park is going to take many years to gather.  Vested interest in something that will pay dividends in the long run.  Welcome to the white side of town where corruption runs deep.

We Are Not Atlanta

I am Talitha Smith of Stockbridge and am new to the area.  It seems it is political season in this city.  It is a shame I can’t vote in the election because I haven’t lived here long enough.  There is one thing I have learned though in these past few months and that is a man who has a blog site and is running for city council.  I moved to the area to get out of the City of Atlanta to a smaller area.  This person touts wanting this area to become Atlanta.  If he loves the place so much let him move there.  My boyfriend and I wanted a quieter place to raise our 3 year old.  If I could vote I could not vote for someone who puts another town above his own.  That is what gets cities and communities in trouble.  I surely hope he does not succeed.

No Dollar General On Keys Ferry Rd & Stroud Rd!!

The idea of wanting to put a Dollar General Store at the intersection of Stroud Road and Keys Ferry Rd in southeastern Henry County is a poor idea.  This is one of the last areas of the county that shows the true rural nature of our past.  According to records of the area from July 1, 2015, there are not enough people to support this store with one at either end of Keys Ferry Road.  It is just over kill and the ambiance of the community would be ruined by bringing in this type of business to the area.  With the population of this area being only 162 people per square mile it doesn't make sense to bring this to the area expecting it to thrive.  It would likely fail leaving another empty store in Henry County.  The old buildings at the intersection are part of the Sandy Ridge community of the past.  The building at the corner was built in 1916, the next one in 1930, the next one in 1940 and the shop in 1976 which was a volunteer F.D. for a while.  The old
 homes across the road from the property were built around the turn of he century.  This is also the roadway that the Union Army camped along in November 1864 with the March to the Sea.  The 17th Corps of General Francis Blair, Jr. stretched from Worthville in Butts County to Sandy Ridge up to the community of Wano.  The history of the area speaks for itself and bringing in a Dollar General Store would not be a right fit for the area.  We at the Cemetery Research Group are opposed to the destruction of Historical sites in our county and this would be another destruction of the past that future generations would never see.

It’s been 14 years

It’s been 14 years since terrorist attacked us on September 11, 2001 killing 3000 Americans. Over the years we have seen America rise up, and help each other in the aftermath. Pride swept over this land, proud to be American and proud of our Military. America came together because our homeland was being threatened by a force that wants to destroy what our founding fathers built with their sweat, blood, tears and yes their lives.

The past few years, I have seen all the caring and pride for each other and America dwindling very rapidly. It started when the same threat that attacked us in 2001 became more prevalent in America. We are starting to slide down a slope that our Nation might not be able to recover from. It’s time we get our attitude back, that we have the best Military in the world, and if you mess with us  “We will put a boot up your ass.” We are the top dog in the game if you want to play we are ready. Americans love to fight, they love the sting of battle, we started the Country with a battle and it’s the only way we will keep it. And for the people that don’t like it, get out of our Nation we are Americans!

I ask you to remember what America stood for years ago when we lived as a great Nation. Remember our Military Men and Women that have died keeping us free. Remember the Firemen and Policemen that gave of themselves, and some did give all that day. And through years to come, through sickness from the debris at ground zero.

I ask that you remember the victims that were killed that day, and their families and loved ones. Please say a prayer for the families of the victims of that horrible day that we suffered. They are still hurting from the sudden way they lost loved ones. I have been in contact with a few of them and I am one also. I lost my fiancé  on that day. We need your understanding that we lost loved ones in a horrible way that we hear about all the time on the news. Some have been able to move on, but many have had a very hard time with their loss of loved ones. Some family members feel that their life force was zapped out of them on that day. So please show compassion for us as we try to live a life that is empty and alone.

To my sweetheart, a day does not pass that I don’t think of you. I miss your laugh that was like a rose petal just as it opens. I miss your beautiful golden hair that was like honey. And your eyes that were perfume that melted my heart every time I would look into them. Your heart was pure gold full of love that I knew was right for me. I miss you so much darling that I will never be complete again in my life. I still play one of our songs, it reminds me of the first time you said you loved me. I knew then I had found the love of a lifetime in you sweet heart. You made me feel so alive knowing that we were in love so much. We are fast approaching the 14th anniversary of the deadliest attack upon our nation since it’s inception.  On September 11, 2001, our nation saw the horror of terrorists using jet airliners for weapons.  Hijackers took four planes to do their dirty work.  They took two to New York City to attack the twin office towers of the World Trade Center.  They also used one to fly into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and yet still another didn’t reach its target as it came down in a remote field in Pennsylvania.


On that day when time halted for many, 2,977 innocent lives were taken by these terrorists.   In New York alone, 2,606 died.  Another 125 died at the Pentagon and 246 on the four jet planes including the field in Pennsylvania.   Air traffic came to a halt.  Our nation was on full alert.  And our leaders vowed to bring those who did this to justice.  Well that justice took a very long time to find the key figures of this plan to disrupt the nation and the world.  Some are still at large today.


The death toll continues to rise as those who went to help at the scene in New York City, many of them have gotten ill with strange illnesses of the lungs as well as over 1,400 have developed cancer.  The death toll will rise as even more of those involved will likely succumb to some respiratory or cancer related illness.  And look at the death toll from the troops in the foreign lands looking and fighting these terrorists.


What the nation should realize as they stop to reflect on that day is the fact that there are still those in this world who want to see us dead.  Keep that close at heart and never forget it.  Remember those family members and loved ones who lost those who were part of their lives that day.  Keep them in prayer as they are still hurting today after all this time.  And there seems to be a lack of people wanting to remember the attack on our nation that killed so many.  They seem to want to forget.  Let not anyone forget and let not our youth go without learning what happened that day fourteen years ago.

The South River In Poor Health

Mr. Britt sir thank you for your blog where we can send in our views without being turned away.  I have something serious to discuss being a mother of  three.
The South River that runs from Atlanta down through DeKalb, Rockdale, Henry, Newton and into Jackson Lake is a very polluted river.  The odor after the rain is like death in the air.  Atlanta releases sewerage into the river and other chemicals which flow down to us.  I would never allow my children to even go near the water for fear of bacterial disease.  My husband said he would never eat a fish from the river because he has seen some with sores on them.  I see people all the time in canoes and kayaks on the  river and they are literally taking their lives into their hands by going in the water.    I have read where Atlanta’s permit for releasing sewerage into the river was to be renewed this year and with possible extra releases.  We also heard that the EPD is dragging their feet in the matter.  I am sure they will get what they want.  Look at the Chattahoochee that flows into West Point Lake.  The river is polluted and so is the lake.  Rarely do
 people eat a fish for that lake.  But it is irresponsible for people to advertise to go and enjoy the river when they should know that it is highly polluted and dangerous.  I have heard that the river would take years to clean up even if Atlanta didn’t send anything into the river.  There are other factors like streams and creeks that lead into the river and they are heavily polluted as well.  One person we know who lives along the Snapfinger Creek in DeKalb County that flows into the South River had the water checked along his stretch.  It showed high amounts of bacteria and even high amounts of battery acid from a source up stream.  Please don’t go in the river and stay safe because your life is worth more than someone’s pipe dream.

Henry County BOC Stabs Citizens In The Back

Thank you for having a place for the people to voice their real thoughts.  I was at the BOC meeting on Wednesday morning when the millage rate was set.  The chairman Mr. Smith and district three Mr. Barham voted against the type of roll back that will cost us more in taxes due to the big jump in property tax values.  But you try to sell your home what they claim it is worth and you will be badly disappointed.  Here is what was said according to the Henry Herald Newspaper: “Commissioners could have chosen to keep the millage rate at 14.298 but it would have cost the taxpayers more. It would have generated an excess of $2.4 million in the unassigned fund balance. If commissioners had approved a 100 percent rollback to 13.234 to generate the same amount in taxes as last year, the county’s unassigned fund balance would be about $1.157 million below the required 25 percent, according to county projections. Smith has maintained that he campaigned on not
 raising property taxes. However, Commissioner Brian Preston argued that Smith created the budget that was approved, which would require an increase. Smith countered that the needed funds could come from the reserve account, and that the numbers presented are merely projections of what may or may not happen regarding dipping into the unassigned fund balance. Commissioner Blake Prince said he would not support taking money from reserves in the future, which could potentially cause a government shut down. After discussions, Smith asked for a motion to approve a millage rate, but after a long silence, no motion was made. Interim County Manager Cheri Hobson-Matthews attempted to speak more on the millage options in an effort to get a motion when Commissioner Bruce Holmes made the motion to approve the millage rollback to 13.873. Preston seconded the motion.”  Always remember when you are shelling out those hard earned dollars for taxes that Commissioners
 Holmes, Preston, Moss and Prince put them upon your backs.  They had their minds made up long before these public hearings were held.  They are a pathetic bunch if they think the public is that stupid.  Remember all this if these money grubbers decide to run for public office again.  They have no place in handling the money of the people of these county whom they swore an oath to represent.
